Introducing the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Chrono Black Titanium


On the sidelines of SIHH 2017, TAG Heuer and the other watch brands in the LVMH Group (Hublot and Zenith) will be presenting novelties to journalists and retailers who have flocked to Geneva for the week. Following on from the full Black Ceramic Heuer-01 we showed you earlier this week, TAG returns to the roots of its collection, with a sporty and masculine Carrera Chronograph, dressed in black and beige, for a slight vintage look. Here is the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Chrono Black Titanium replica watch.

This new watch is in the same vein as existing watches of the brand, such as this model. Visually, we have the great, racing-oriented Carrera style, with the typical case (facetted lugs) and a legible outer tachymeter scale printed on the bezel. The dial features the usual large decimal numerals (and no hour indexes), a day and date configuration and an automatic chronograph movement (based on the 7750). This watch has been in the collection for 10 years already and so TAG Heuer has decided to give it a much-welcomed facelift.

This sporty watch, 43 mm in diameter and launched in 2007, has always been one of TAG Heuer’s best sellers and one of the brand’s iconic models. Thus, even if an update was required to keep it fresh, you know they weren’t going to mess with the overall design too much and risk ruining it. The goal therefore of the new TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Chrono Black Titanium is to essentially modernise the existing version, using more contemporary colors and materials. Firstly, it is now available in titanium, a lightweight and resistant material. In this instance Grade 2 micro-blasted black PVD titanium has been used, giving the case a masculine and modern look. It is framed with a black ceramic bezel and beige tachymeter scale. The dial follows the same update, with a black face and beige filled hands and numerals.

On the reverse, the sapphire case back reveals the mechanics of the automatic Calibre 16 movement (7750 based) as well as the oscillating weight, decorated with a Côtes de Genève pattern. the movement has been coated in black to match with the case, dial and bezel. The TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Chrono Black Titanium is fitted with a distressed brown leather strap that that will most certainly age nicely.
