TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 36 Chronograph Flyback Racing Automatic Replica

With its TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 36 Chronograph Flyback Racing automatic watch, the Swiss watchmaking brand makes an attempt to move the collection closer to their more expensive Grand Carrera line. Judging by the official specs, the timekeeper that Tag Heuer has released last month at Baselworld 2013 show, not only looks great, but is also crafted in order to be as comfortable on your wrist as practically possible.

According to the brand’s press release, the watch comes in a moderately oversized (for a sporty timepiece, that is) body, which is fashioned from grade 2 titanium alloy and is than treated with scratch-resistant black carbide coating.

The matt black surface of the watch is nicely matched by an anthracite dial with a traditional sunburst pattern that not only looks great, but also provides enough contrast for the glossy black hands and Arabic numerals.

The red accents on the tachymeter scale, as well as on the pointers of the chronograph totalizers and the small seconds hand, make this watch look especially attractive, in a dark sort of way.

Of course, like it comes to almost all promotional photos, the rendered image of the watch that Tag Heuer disseminated with the PR files can’t be used to adequately assess the timekeeper’s legibility in real life with its often less than perfect lighting conditions.

As the name implies, the Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 36 Chronograph Flyback Racing  replica watch comes equipped with their gorgeous Caliber 36 RS automatic movement that also powered the vintage-styled Tag Heuer Monza Calibre 36 Re-Edition (Ref. CR5112.FC6290) chronograph wristwatch that the Swiss brand released around two years ago. Although the mechanism is often referred to as “in-house”, it is in fact based on the well-known Zenith El Primero 400 automatic movement and, despite featuring modified oscillating weight and some other parts, shares its disadvantages, including the non-hacking seconds that often disappoint owners new to the caliber.

Beating at a frequency of 36,000 semi-oscillations per hour (or 10 vibrations per second), the movement not only allows for extremely precise (for a mechanical timekeeper) measurements of time intervals, but also makes it a nice competitors to Zenith’s chronograph that are, too, equipped with fast calibers softly buzzing at the same frequency.

I am only a little worried about these long horns that may make this otherwise perfect timekeeper look a trifle awkward on a skinny wrist. So, make sure to try one on your own wrist before ordering this beauty online.
